An expressive and brilliantly executed large mid-century figurative painting, painted in oil onto board.

The composition captures the essence of a solitary moment in time, as it presents a  woman dressed in a red dress, sitting on a chair. Her hands are gently clasped together in her lap, and her face slightly tilted downward, evoking a sense of contemplation. Soft, diffused light pours in through a large window beside her, which adds depth and atmosphere to the scene.

The colour palette used is muted and dark, with various shades of dark green, blue, brown, and red dominating the painting, creating an air of mystery and melancholy.

The brushstrokes in the painting are expressive and swift, showcasing the artist’s skill and emotional connection to the subject.

This oil on board is housed in a distressed style wood frame with scattered gilt detailing. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has some slight wear but this is in keeping with its distressed style. The corner joints have widened slightly.
