This striking 20th-century African wooden sculpture depicts a beautifully abstracted human figure, its arms raised overhead in a graceful, embracing gesture. The elongated, flowing silhouette evokes a sense of movement, spirituality and contemplation.

Carved in an elegant modernist style, the sculpture features sweeping organic curves that rise from a geometric base into a dramatic, pointed arch. At its centre, a small rounded head emerges within an open circular space, creating a captivating interplay between solid form and negative space. The gently twisting body lends the composition a wonderful sense of rhythm and fluidity.

The wood displays a rich, warm palette of reddish-brown, deep mahogany and chestnut tones, with darker areas accentuating its sculptural contours. Subtle variations in the wood grain and a softly polished finish enhance its natural warmth and tactile appeal.

Skillfully carved from wood, the sculpture demonstrates a refined balance of smooth, rounded surfaces, flowing lines and carefully defined openings. Its simplified figurative form and expressive proportions reflect the influence of modernist abstraction.

The sculpture is in good vintage condition, with some light marks commensurate with its age.
