A brilliantly executed still life painting in tempera painted onto board in 1979, by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public and museum collections across Sweden.

The composition features a selection of fruit neatly arranged on a folded white cloth against a brown background. The simplicity of the subject matter allows the viewer to focus on the interplay of colours, shapes, and light within the artwork.

The style is realistic yet painterly, and the depiction of shadows beneath the fruit and folds in the cloth adds depth to the image, enhancing its three-dimensionality.

The palette is rich yet restrained. Warm tones dominate, with the reds, oranges, and yellows of the fruit providing vibrant focal points. The white of the cloth contrasts beautifully with the earthy tones of the brown background, creating balance and harmony in the composition.

The brushstrokes are smooth and meticulous, contributing to the tempera medium’s characteristic flatness and opacity. This technique lends the painting a polished, clean aesthetic.

This tempera on board is housed in a well-suited gilt frame and with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
