A brilliantly executed and lively modernist style still life composition, executed in oil onto board, and dated 1955.

The composition presents a group of objects including some fruits as well as cups laid across a well-coloured surface and against beautifully patterned backdrop.

Drawing inspiration from elements of cubism and geometric abstraction, the artist has masterfully deconstructed and fragmented the painting down to distinct blocks and geometric forms that interact with one another. Each respective shape seems to occupy its own distinct space, yet together they form a cohesive and harmonious whole.

The use of contrasting colours highlights the three-dimensional qualities of each object, whilst simultaneously emphasising the two-dimensional flatness of the board, and the overall spectrum of rich colours imbues the work with liveliness.

This oil on board is housed in a stunning wood frame with an inner silver and orange window that elevates the painting’s overall uniqueness. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. And the frame has some wear to edges as shown, and there is a white mark to the right side of inner border.
