A very well executed mid century semi abstract composition in oil, painted onto canvas.

Here we see a boat docked in front of a building, but the artist has chosen to focus on formal qualities such as form, shape, line and colour. Working under a distinctly modernist ethos, the artist has very cleverly reduced the scene down to flat planes of colour, creating a cubist, geometric effect in the composition, bringing our attention to the fact that this is indeed a painting on a surface, shaped by the artist’s own view and perception, as opposed to a realistic depiction of a boat by a shed. Yet details like the stillness of the water, the reflection of the boat, and the structures involved are still so masterfully captured.

This oil painting is housed in a very well suited gilt frame. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
