A small and engaging mid-century animal composition painted in a naïve style, executed in oil onto board.

The composition focuses on a black sheep within a nature landscape setting.  The sheep has an expressive face, which features a slightly surprised, wide-eyed expression.

The overall colour palette is subdued, with the background in light earthy tones of beige and light green, which allows the rich black of the sheep to stand out prominently. The brushstrokes are textured, imbuing the work with a tactile quality.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary black frame. The painting and frame have some slight wear as shown in the photos, but this is in keeping with its style.
