A brilliantly executed mid century modernist street scene composition in oil, painted onto board.

Painted in an expressionist manner, we see a view of a French street, with figures passing by. To the right we see the clearly marked out sign ‘Bar Tabac’, a quintessentially French shop/cafe/bar. The palette is soft and gentle, and the brushstrokes loose but detailed. The painting captures a wonderful sense of the everyday in the charming streets of France.

This oil on board is housed in a really unique wood frame that has been painted off white but with the wood grain still visible. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
