Atlas (II)

SOLD.

A soothing and minimalistic mid-century abstract painting, executed in oil onto thick card by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

Created with a masterful technique, the artist has skilfully employed broad brushstrokes, applying layers of colours to build up light texture and dimension to the work.

The composition presents a harmonious blend of whites, browns, greys and blue, and the colours  gracefully overlap upon one another.  The artist has also allowed the orangey-brown backing substrate to come through, adding another element of rawness to the work.

This oil is housed in a complementary wood frame. The painting is in very good vintage condition, and the frame has very minor marks but its overall appearance is very good.

There is a second painting of the same size which would go perfectly with this one, in case you wanted a pair. You can view it here.
