A large and striking figurative composition in acrylic, executed onto stretched canvas and dated 2014 on the reverse.
This painting is a bold, minimalist representation of a standing figure, shown from the waist down. The figure wears a red skirt, blue coat or outer garment, and blue shoes with lighter blue uppers, and holds a brown walking stick, which adds a sense of balance the composition.
The style is flat and graphic, with solid blocks of colour and no shading or detail, creating a sense of modernist abstraction. The background consists of a light yellow wall, a mint green doorframe, and a warm ochre wooden floor with black lines indicating floorboards. The figure’s pale legs contrast against the colourful clothes and shoes, and the use of simplified forms gives the painting a striking, almost poster-like appearance.
