A large and exceptionally executed mid-century abstract landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas.

Distinct expressive and heavily textured brushstrokes have been used across this composition to create this striking painting.

Although the subject matter appears to be abstract, we can perhaps discern houses nestled within a landscape setting and with 2 figures strolling in the foreground being skilfully abstracted down to blocks of contrasting colours.

The artwork shows a harmonious blend of shades featuring a range of darker hues as well as muted tones that balance out very well.

The use of the impasto technique – where thick bold strokes of paint have been applied such the paint stands proud from the surface adds texture, depth and a tactile quality to the painting.

This oil canvas on is housed in a beautiful frame with double wood and linen windows. There are some areas of craquelure due to the thickness of paint but this is commensurate with age and the paint layer is stable overall. Otherwise painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
