In this expressive landscape, Frances Daws explores not the countryside as it appears, but as it is remembered after countless journeys along the same familiar roads. Shapes dissolve into broad, confident brushstrokes, while a restrained palette of deep greens, warm ochres and soft pinks allows shifts in tone to take centre stage.
The landscape feels as though it is constantly moving. Glimpsed from a car window, recalled later in fragments, and reassembled through memory rather than observation. Areas of exposed underpainting peek through the composition, lending a sense of depth and cohesion while reminding us that, much like our own recollections, every landscape is built layer by layer. The result is a painting that feels both tranquil and wonderfully familiar, inviting the viewer to fill in the details with memories of journeys of their own
The painting is beautifully presented in a wide profile rustic wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. Having lived by the English coastline and now residing within the countryside her work is often formed by ‘colour journeys’ a form of mapping the landscape through the emotive language of colour.
