A very unique original artwork by contemporary British artist Dave Boyd, which has been constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards), and mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

Two horizontal bands of coloured squares sit quietly against the weathered surface, each resembling a carefully considered palette study. Shades of crimson, burgundy, blush, ivory, charcoal, and soft grey are arranged with measured precision, creating subtle variations between the upper and lower compositions while maintaining an understated sense of balance.

The reclaimed materials lend the work remarkable depth and character, as it provides a tactile counterpoint to the crisp geometry of the coloured grids. The dialogue between the structured arrangement of colour and the organic imperfections of the salvaged materials creates a quiet but compelling visual tension.

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and the natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials. Paintings and collages often embody a built or constructed aesthetic and are strongly influenced by architecture and the built environment, with the aim of suggesting visual encounters with structures and landscapes. Utilising and repurposing materials,  with a focus on minimal composition, surface and colour, Dave’s work seek to utilise the subtle marks inherent in objects that have been used and handled over many years.
