Patchwork Landscape

An expressive mid-century abstract landscape that presents a gently rolling countryside punctuated by a solitary red-roofed dwelling, nestled among tall, stylised trees executed in oil onto board.

The scene is composed as a patchwork of interlocking fields and winding paths, drawing the eye inward through a rhythmic, almost musical arrangement of forms. The house becomes a quiet focal point – an anchor of human presence within a broader, cultivated landscape.

The landscape has been reduced into geometric planes and simplified silhouettes. Perspective is subtly flattened, favouring structure and composition over naturalistic depth, lending the work a contemplative, design-led quality.

The colour palette is earthy and restrained: moss and olive greens, warm browns, and burnt oranges dominate the terrain, while the vivid red roof provides a striking yet balanced contrast. Soft greys and subdued blues in the background create atmosphere and spatial calm.

Brushstrokes are confident and matte, applied in broad, opaque blocks with visible edges. Rather than blending, the artist allows colours to sit alongside one another, enhancing the sense of construction and rhythm.

This oil on board is housed in a softly weathered  grey-brown tone frame with subtle warm undertones. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
