A charming and very pleasant modernist oil landscape, painted by the established Swedish artist Stig Wernheden (1921-1997), whose works have been represented at public collections in Sweden including the Moderna Museet, Malmö Museum, Snuff & Match Museum, Ystad Art Museum and Malmö City Hall.

This scenic and atmospheric painting depicts a group of figures passing through a pathway that stretches across a lush valley landscape.

Painted with a modernist ethos, the artist has used flat blocks of contrasting colours to create a sense of space and depth. All realistic details have been omitted, and our attention is drawn to painterly elements such as shape, form, brushstroke and colour.

A combination of lightly textured brushstrokes as well as uplifting tones including shades of blue, green white and yellow have been used, adding a very soothing and relaxing effect to the painting.

This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited wood frame with a linen border. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
