An outstanding mid-20th century composition of a southern cityscape, painted in oil onto canvas.

Executed in a semi-abstract manner, the artist has skilfully reconstructed and simplified this cityscape of buildings and foliage down to blocks and planes of contrasting colours to demonstrate a sense of depth and space.

The combination of sweeping brushstrokes as well as use of a natural colour palette comprising muted earth tones of rich terracotta, forest green, and cream create a calm and soothing atmosphere.

This gorgeous oil on canvas would certainly stand out in any interior, whether traditional or modern. It is housed in a slim gilt frame with a distressed painted inner window. The painting is in excellent condition and the frame has some losses and wear, as shown.
