The Stove
SOLD.
A small but very well executed mid century modernist interior scene, painted in oil onto canvas.
This charming painting depicts a Swedish tile stove, also known as a kakelugn. These ceramic tile fireplaces are quintessentially Swedish, and date back to the Middle Ages although many were destroyed in the mid 20th century to make way for central heating. Hanging next to the stove are a range of pictures, conveying a homely scene. We also a see a blue coat or towel hanging next to it, alluding to the practical nature of the stove which can dry wet garments.
The painting features a light colour palette with shades of blue, light brown and green making up most of the composition. Visible and expressionist brushstrokes imbue the painting with its painterly character.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
