A captivating mid-century modernist figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1955.

This vibrant interior setting portrays a male figure seated upon a chair, his posture exuding a sense of tranquil contemplation. Within the interior setting, viewers catch glimpses of various objects that add depth and intrigue to the narrative. A cupboard stands in the background, a blue ladder leans casually against a pillar, and some boxes are laying across on the floor.

Through skilful brushwork, the artist has infused the scene with energy, echoed by the rich and uplifting colour palette. And the expressive and textured brushstrokes further enhance the emotional resonance of the painting.

This oil on canvas is housed in a beautiful white frame with an inner wood and gilt border. The painting has some craquelure due to the thickness of paint, as shown in close ups. The paint later is very stable overall. Tiny areas of paint loss but these are not obvious unless closely inspected.
