This brilliantly executed oil transforms a waterside scene into a playful arrangement of colour and shape. Trees become sharp triangles, buildings are reduced to blocks, and their reflections fragment into an almost abstract pattern across the water below.
The palette is particularly joyful: vivid lime and forest greens sit alongside brilliant yellow and cool blues, giving the painting a wonderful freshness and energy. Yet despite the bold colour, there’s a pleasing sense of order to the composition, with the strong horizontal shoreline balancing the cluster of angular forms above and below it.
Somewhere between landscape and abstraction, it’s the sort of painting that can be enjoyed simply for its shapes and colours and then, almost suddenly, resolves itself back into a place.
This oil on canvas is presented in a very well suited silver painted floater frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some very minor scuffing.
