The Orchard Walk

A lively mid-century expressionist landscape painting, executed in oil by the established Swedish artist Uno Vallman (1913-2004) whose works are included in the Swedish National Museum and The Swedish Modern Museum, to name a few. His works are also included in the collections of Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and the Tessin Institute in Paris.

The painting captures a solitary figure wandering through a grove of expressive, windswept trees set against a bright sky. The composition feels both playful and deeply atmospheric, with the rounded canopies forming rhythmic shapes across the canvas while the figure introduces a quiet human presence within the natural setting.

Executed in an expressive, semi-abstract style, the work is rich with energetic mark-making and spontaneous movement. Bold black linear accents weave through the trees and landscape, creating a graphic structure that contrasts beautifully against the softer fields of colour. The palette is vibrant yet balanced, dominated by fresh greens, sky blues, soft whites, earthy browns and flashes of vivid red-orange that animate the lower landscape.

Brushstrokes are loose, gestural and layered, giving the painting a wonderfully textured surface full of movement and visual rhythm. Thick outlines, broken colour application and painterly dabs lend the work an instinctive, almost childlike immediacy.

This oil on canvas is presented in a warm-toned wood frame with gilt detailing. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and there are some small scuffs to the corners of the frame
