The Long Way Home

SOLD

A charming and highly evocative 1969 oil on board depicting a quiet urban street scene rendered in a delightfully naïve, expressive style. The composition draws the viewer down a gently winding road flanked by pastel-toned buildings in warm shades of peach, cream and terracotta, their simplified forms giving the scene a dreamlike quality.

In the foreground, a solitary female figure in a striking red coat walks through the street, becoming an immediate focal point and adding a strong sense of narrative and human presence. Nearby, a bright red car echoes her coat, creating a pleasing visual rhythm across the painting. Bare winter trees and softly suggested architectural details hint at a northern European town, while the muted palette of pale greens, blues and greys lends the work a calm, atmospheric feel.

This oil on board is housed in a lovely wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has a very small loss to the upper right corner as shown.
