An intimate and beautifully executed composition of an interior setting, painted in oil onto board and dated 1968.

In the centre of the composition, we see a figure reading a book, as she sits on a chair placed against a patterned floor. Surrounding her are an assortment of objects including a potted plant, paintings on the wall, and some furniture.

The artist has worked in an expressive manner, using loose and swift brushstrokes to compose the scene. He has also used a rich and uplifting colour palette, wonderfully layering respective shades.

Furthermore, by leaving areas of the canvas exposed, the artist’s creative use of negative space accentuates the shapes of the figure and objects, drawing our attention to their distinct form.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary silver frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs and marks as shown in close ups.
