A poignant and beautifully textured modernist figurative portrait painting, executed in oil onto board and dated 1965.

This composition captures a tender moment where an older figure is embracing a younger figure. The sense of comfort brought forth by this scene is further enhanced through the use of muted warm colours comprising shades of orange, red, yellow and brown.

The artist has skilfully layered contrasting shades, leaving visible black and red undertones. Thick application of paint have been applied to the surface through the use of loose and unrestrained brushstrokes, creating a unique texture that adds character to the painting.

This oil on board is housed in a light wooden frame with gilt detail. The painting and frame are both in excellent vintage condition.
