Poppet

SOLD.

A very striking modernist figurative oil portrait by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

This affectionate portrait depicts a silhouette of a young female figure with excited eyes, who is wearing a yellow and orange dress with blue undertones. The rich and vivid colours of the background in the painting interestingly pick up the colours of her dress in reverse.

The silhouette of the figure has been highlighted by a bold black outline, and upon close inspection of the painting, one can notice how the artist has skilfully layered contrasting swathes of colours to reveal a light texture and interest to the painting.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

Size: 45 x 37 cm (including frame)
