A very unique and well executed mid century modernist portrait, painted in oil onto board in 1950.

Drawing on the ethos of surrealism, this poetic painting asserts the power of the unconscious and dream. In this picture we see a side profile of a head, with an array of elements such as droplets, a butterfly, falling leaves and musical strings around the head. The background is a tile like mosaic of white and pink, which really draws attention to the profile.

Here the artist creates a composition that is outside the realms of reality and rationality or reason. The picture emphasises the liberation of both the mind and of artistic expression.

The painting is housed in multi aperture frame which suits the painting perfectly. There is some minor scattered craquelure to the painting but the paint layer is very stable overall. Both the painting and frame are in good vintage condition.
