A woman sits comfortably atop a vibrant orange towel, dressed in a blue bathing suit and shaded by a straw hat, completely absorbed in her book. Behind her is a lush coastal landscape scene, where a few distant figures stroll along the beach.
The brushwork is lively and expressive, with confident, loose strokes that convey texture and movement. Bold splashes of colour—especially the warm orange of the towel and the verdant greens of the surrounding landscape—create a dynamic contrast with the cooler blue tones of the woman’s outfit and the sandy, coastal hues in the background.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary frame with an inner and outer gilt window. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has some paint losses, but this is in keeping with its vintage style.
