A very well executed oil portrait, painted onto canvas in 1966.
Painted in an expressionist style, broad and painterly brushstrokes make up this striking composition of a seated figure. The artist has left out realistic details, focusing instead on the shape, form and lines of the figure. He has captured the way the light falls on the figure, using an almost post-impressionist colour palette to depict the areas of shadow on light on the figure’s coat. The artist has left the background indistinct, but has used a palette that plays off the colours on the figure wonderfully. There is a very harmonious balance in the overall composition of this painting, making it a real pleasure to look at.
The painting is housed in dark brown frame with a an inner linen lined window. Both frame and painting are in excellent vintage condition. Please note that the lighter looking areas in the photos are not to do with any issues in the painting, but due instead to glare from natural light when taking the photos.
Size: 61.5 x 41.5 cm (including frame)
