A compelling mid-century painting that presents a tightly composed arrangement of house facades that has been reduced to a sequence of interlocking geometric forms, executed in oil onto board and dated 1952.

Angular rooftops, window blocks, and simplified architectural planes sit side by side, creating a dense, almost puzzle-like composition. A darker vertical element – suggestive of a tower or chimney – rises subtly in the background, adding contrast and anchoring the structure without disrupting its abstraction.

Executed in a modernist style with clear cubist influences, the work prioritises shape and structure over traditional perspective. Depth is flattened, and space is conveyed through overlapping planes rather than illusionistic distance. This oil on board is presented in a light-toned wooden frame with a softly textured finish, and with subtle ridges that add depth without overwhelming the composition. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some light cracks present, consistent with age.
