Pathway Through Winter

A subdued and expressive mid-century modernist winter landscape composition, executed in oil onto board and dated 1965 on reverse.

The painting presents a meandering path cutting through a snow-covered landscape. A row of abstracted trees line the pathway, their dark, angular forms contrasting against the muted tones of the snowy ground. The perspective leads the viewer’s eye into the distance, creating depth and a sense of quiet movement.

The artist has used a bold and expressive style, using gestural brushstrokes and a restrained colour palette. Earthy browns, soft greys, and off-whites dominate the board, with hints of deep green and blue adding depth and mood. This oil on board is housed in a very well suited wood frame with an inner linen lining. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some very minor scuffing, but nothing that detracts from overall attractiveness.
