A brilliantly executed modernist night street scene composition, executed in oil onto board.

Two figures by a street punctuate the foreground of the painting, and the artist has thoughtfully painted just their silhouettes and omitted realistic details. The figures are surrounded by blocks of houses under a moonlit sky, and the artist has presented a unique angle for the viewer to get a glimpse of just the rooftops of the houses.

The painting has a strong focus on geometric shapes, line and colour, and there is an aura of misery which the artist has achieved through the use of multiple elements such as the dark and moody earthy colour palette, as well as bold silhouettes of the respective forms. Furthermore, the artist displays his painterly abilities as he skilfully captures the illuminating glow from the moonlight, as well as the effects of light and shadow through creating an effective colour gradient.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame with linen border. The painting and frame are both in excellent vintage condition.
