A small but very impactful modernist street scene composition, executed in oil onto board.

The painting presents a wide-angled view of houses with a hill-like landscape in the background.

The artist has used the expressive qualities of colour and brushstrokes to capture the melancholy in this scene.

Upon close inspection of the painting, we can notice that the artist has very skilfully layered contrasting colours in an intense and expressive manner. Using a muted colour palette, the lighter cream tones of the houses contrasts against the sombre and moody colours, and the lightness and darkness of this restrained palette adds a nostalgic feel to the painting.

This oil on board is housed in its original mid century gilt frame with an inner linen border. The painting and frame are both in excellent vintage condition.
