Impasto Bouquet

An outstanding mid-century still life composition in oil, that masterfully combines elements of semi-abstraction and the impasto technique to depict a bouquet of roses.

The roses, rendered in shades of red, green, orange, and blue, exude a sense of liveliness, and they have been centered against a light and muted cream background, that imbues the work with a sense of calm.

While the forms of the roses are recognisable, they have been simplified and reduced to their essence through the semi-abstract approach. The artist captures the inherent beauty of the flowers by focusing on their essential shapes and contours.

The artist has also skillfully applied thick and textured brushstrokes, using the impasto technique to create a visually tactile and expressive surface, resulting in a three-dimensional quality.

This oil on board is housed in its original mid-century gilt frame with an inner linen border. The frame has some scuffs to the edges, and some small losses to its corners. The painting is in excellent vintage condition.
