Head Study

A 1999 earthenware sculpture that presents an arresting head study, imbued with a raw, almost archaeological presence. The figure is elongated through the neck, giving it a slightly stylised, contemplative posture, somewhere between portrait and abstraction.
The surface is richly textured, bearing the marks of the artist’s hand. Rough, uneven patches and subtle pitting create a sense of age and weathering, as though the piece has been unearthed rather than made. The warm, earthy tones (burnt sienna, clay red, and soft ochre) shift gently across the form, catching light in a way that emphasises its tactile quality.
Facial features are simplified but expressive. The eyes are gently hollowed, the nose softly defined, and the mouth sits in a neutral, almost introspective line. Nothing is overly detailed, yet it is deeply evocative through characteristics of the clay.
The sculpture is in good vintage condition. Please note that it is rather heavy.
