A very endearing and engaging canine composition of a greyhound, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel by British artist Matt Rix.

The dog, painted in a soft, pale grey with delicate shading, stands tall and poised against a simple, two-toned background: a warm brown upper section suggesting wood or wall paneling, and a golden-yellow floor beneath. The greyhound’s form is sleek and elongated, with its slender legs, curved back, and graceful tail giving the piece a sense of quiet dignity.

A dark red-brown collar adorns the dog’s neck, echoing the bold crimson-red frame that surrounds the artwork, tying the composition together with a strong accent of colour.

This oil on board is housed in a red painted wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.
