A large and bold mid century modernist composition, painted in oil onto board.
Featuring a rich and opulent colour palette, this modernist composition depicts the facades of several houses within a village, surrounded by trees. The forms of both the buildings and trees have been executed confidently, with an emphasis on formal elements such as line, shape and colour. Jewel like ruby reds and emerald greens juxtapose against the brighter yellows and pinks of the house walls. Non-naturalistic in both colour and form, the artist conveys the way in which the golden light envelops the little town and brings it to life.
This oil on board is housed in a gilt and green detail frame which complements the painting’s colours very well. There is a small area of paint loss to the top left section of the painting, as shown. There are some scuffs and light wear to the frame, commensurate with age.
