A wonderfully simple yet very effective abstract figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1958.

The artist has painted a scene of a figure seated on an orange couch, within an interior setting.

Leaving out any realistic detail and painted with a modernist ethos with a strong focus on colour and brushstroke, the artist uses contrasting pastel shades and simple delicate strokes very well. The combination of minimal use of paint and effective technical skill allows us to really take in and enjoy all the discernible details while having a timelessness that enables this picture to suit many interior settings.

This oil on canvas is housed in an outstanding frame with double gilt windows.  There are some marks to the lower right corner of painting and frame, as shown, as well as some scuffs to edges of frame.
