A lively and expressive modernist style still life painting influenced by the St Ives School studio, executed in oil onto board.

The composition depicts a table with various objects: fish, pears, a pitcher and a cup, set against a blue backdrop.

The style is expressive and painterly, with an emphasis on flattened forms, bold outlines and geometric shapes, rather than realistic details.

The palette is restrained yet vibrant, dominated by cool tones like blues and greys, balanced with warm neutrals hues. The contrasting colours provide visual harmony and emphasise the shapes of the objects against the background.

The brushstrokes are expressive, and the paint appears to have been applied in layers, with visible, deliberate strokes creating depth and movement. This dynamic handling of paint gives the composition a lively, almost rhythmic quality.

This oil on board is housed in a distressed wood frame that complements the painting very well. There is a surface mark on the left side of painting (as shown in the close up), otherwise it is in good condition. The frame has minor age wear, but nothing that detracts.
