An emotive and striking mid-century abstract oil composition by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.
The painting features a striking arrangement of rich and earthy colours and dynamic shapes.
A large black shape occupies the left, transitioning into warm orange followed by olive green to the right. The respective shapes have been divided by irregular lines.
Created with a masterful technique, the artist has skilfully employed broad gestural brushstrokes, applying layers of colours to build up texture and dimension to the work. The brushwork is confident and expressive, with visible strokes that give the artwork a lightly textured quality.
This oil on board is accentuated by a very dark wood frame with an outer and inner gold border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has a slight scuff to its lower right corner of its inner border.
Size: 34.5 x 44.5 cm (including frame)
