A mid-century street scene painting that evokes a sense of nostalgia and beauty in a fleeting moment of city life, executed in oil onto board.

The painting captures a busy street street with architectural silhouettes at dusk. Taking an impressionistic approach, there is a focus on atmosphere and light over detailed precision. Through the use of loose, expressive, and gestural brushstrokes, the artist has skilfully captured a fleeting moment in time.

A moody palette dominated by dark tones of blue, black, and grey for the shadows and buildings have been used. In contrast, the warm yellows, oranges, and subtle reds of the lights and sunset offer a striking counterpoint, drawing the viewer’s eye through the scene. This subdued palette imbues the painting with a nostalgic quality.

This oil on board is housed in complementary original mid century wood frame with an inner gold border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some marks as well as surface gilt loss at its inner gold border.
