Bottle & Pear by the Window

A brilliantly executed still life of a bottle and pear by a window, executed in oil onto board.

At the centre of the composition stand two familiar forms: a tall, dark bottle and a luminous green pear. Their contrasting shapes and colours create a simple yet compelling dialogue. The bottle rises vertically with a restrained, almost architectural presence, while the pear introduces softness, warmth, and organic vitality.

What truly animates the painting is the treatment of light. Sunlight streams through an unseen window, casting strong diagonal bands across the wall and tabletop. These geometric shafts of light create a dramatic framework around the objects, while long shadows stretch across the surface, giving the scene a sense of depth and permanence. The reflected window panes visible on the bottle’s glossy surface add a subtle note of realism and observation.

This oil on board is presented in a wood frame painted black with inner gilt detail. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.
