An engaging and very pleasant modernist still life oil composition dated 1958, and painted by the established Swedish artist Ture Fabiansson (1910-1994), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, The Museum of Art in Gothenburg, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and many others.

Three bunches of green grapes take center stage against a striking blue, red, and cream striped backdrop.

Through careful consideration of colour and shape, the green from the grapes contrasts against the muted shades from the backdrop wonderfully. The softer, curved forms of the grapes also juxtapose against the harder, angular lines of the backdrop.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent condition, and the frame has some minor scuffing.

Set against a rich purple backdrop with a striking orange strip on the left, two whole cauliflowers take centre stage.

The artist has used distinct expressive brushstrokes to paint the backdrop, adding a dynamic quality. Muted shades dominate the colour palette, lending a soothing ambiance to the piece.

Through its overall minimalist setting and deliberate colour choices, the artwork achieves a balance of simplicity and understated elegance

A brilliantly executed mid-century still life in oil, painted by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public and museum collections across Sweden.

Cederberg is known for his exquisite still lifes of pears, which always capture the delightful quirkiness of this lovely fruit. He focuses on their forms, approaching the fruit and its surroundings with a modernist ethos. Both the background and objects within this picture have been painted in flat planes of colour, creating a blocky composition. There is a beautiful balance to the horizontal composition, which Cederberg is known to be adept at achieving.

Cederberg was a Swedish artist who made his debut on the art world in Helsingborg in 1922.  Later he participated in the  Skåne Art Association Exhibition in 1926 and the  Swedish Public Art Society exhibition in Stockholm in 1941. He is represented in several public collections in Sweden.

This brilliantly done oil is beautifully presented in a lovely wood frame and an inner linen lined border.  Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

An expressive mid-century  still life oil composition, that invites viewers to appreciate the beauty of simple, everyday objects.

Set against a beige backdrop rests an assortment of vessels as well as a bowl of green fruit on a brown wooden surface.

Intentionally working with a limited colour palette comprising varying tones of brown and grey as well as a punch of green, our attention is brought to focus on colour and brushstrokes.

Through the use of short and expressive brushstrokes, the artist displays his painterly skills – leveraging qualities of the shading technique as well as creating an effective colour gradient transition to capture the play of light on the objects’ surfaces, highlighting their three-dimensional qualities wonderfully as well as to demonstrate depth to the painting.
