The Family Sitting Room

A charming mid-century interior that captures the warmth and familiarity of a well-loved family sitting room, executed in oil onto board and dated 1941.

A grandfather clock, a rocking chair with a striped cloth, woven rugs and green curtained windows complete the inviting domestic scene, creating a portrait of everyday life filled with comfort and tradition.

Painted in a restrained modernist style, the composition balances careful perspective with simplified forms and clean geometry. Rather than focusing on intricate detail, the artist emphasises the harmony between furniture, architecture and decorative objects, producing an interior that feels both intimate and thoughtfully composed.

A warm palette of terracotta, honeyed browns, soft creams and rich walnut browns is contrasted with muted greens, slate blues and charcoal accents. The glowing copper pans and flickering fire introduce gentle highlights that animate the otherwise calm, earthy interior.
