Parasol Afternoon

A charming and softly abstracted contemporary still life painting that captures a quiet outdoor moment beneath a wide parasol, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 2008.

A rounded umbrella dominates the left side of the composition, rendered in loose, hazy tones of cream, peach and lavender, its form outlined with gentle linear markings. To the right, a simple round table holds a jug and a teacup, their shapes stylised yet recognisable, evoking an unhurried afternoon scene.

Executed in a semi-abstract style, the painting blends figuration with atmospheric colour fields. The outlines are delicately sketched, allowing the objects to float between definition and suggestion, giving the work a poetic, dreamlike quality.

The artist has used a beautifully muted palette – soft apricots, washed blues, pale turquoise, blush pinks, and hints of sage and lavender. These colours melt into one another with a powdery, sun-bleached quality that suggests warmth and light.

The brushstrokes are textured yet gentle, with layered pigment that gives the canvas a tactile, almost fresco-like surface. The transitions between colours are blended in a way that feels effortless and airy, while fine linear markings define just enough structure to anchor the composition.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary gilt frame with an antique finish. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
