Pitcher with Onions

An energetic mid-century still life painting that depicts a bold arrangement of everyday objects rendered with expressive confidence, executed in oil onto board.

At the center stands a tall black pitcher with a sweeping handle, its form accentuated by patches of turquoise, white, and yellow that lend vibrancy and depth. In the foreground, two deep red onions and a bulb of garlic anchor the composition, their rounded shapes contrasting with the pitcher’s angular silhouette.

The artist has used a highly textured technique, layering thick strokes of oil paint that leave visible ridges across the surface. The palette is restrained yet powerful, dominated by black, grey, and white, with strategic bursts of colour to enliven the scene. The brushwork is vigorous and gestural, giving the objects a tactile, almost sculptural presence while retaining a sense of spontaneity and abstraction.

This oil on board is presented in a complementary silver painted wood frame with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
