The Shifting Sky

A large and striking mid-century modernist abstract landscape composed in rich, geometric swathes of colour, executed in oil onto canvas.

This lively painting has abstracted a landscape scene into bold, horizontal blocks that suggest cultivated fields and farmhouses nestled among trees. The land is rendered in earthy greens, dusty pinks and mauves, transitioning toward cooler blues and lavenders in the sky.

The brushstrokes are broad, confident, and thickly applied. The sky dominates the upper half with layered streaks of cloud in muted purples, creams, and blues, evoking a moody, almost cinematic atmosphere. The artist’s minimalist approach to detail creates a sense of depth and serenity, inviting the viewer to contemplate the rhythm and quiet beauty of the countryside.

This oil on board is housed in a very well-suited ridged frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some surface wear to inner silver border (as shown), as well as a small loss to its upper left corner (as shown).
