Winter Skyline

A nostalgic and subdued modernist cityscape that captures the quiet hush of a snow-blanketed town beneath a pale winter sky, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1970.

The composition presents an elevated perspective over a geometric spread of rooftops, their forms simplified into broad, angular planes. The steeple of a distant monument anchors the skyline, rising into a misty atmosphere that suggests early morning or dusk.

Rendered in oil, the artist has used a restrained, muted palette dominated by subdued shades of blues, purples, yellows, and reds. The snow is suggested by broad swathes of white and pale grey, while buildings emerge in solid, shadowy blocks, conveying mass and volume without intricate detail. The brushstrokes are confident, reinforcing the architectural rigidity of the scene.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has scuffing present at its lower left corner.
