A very picturesque modernist townscape composition, painted in oil onto board.
A really wonderful selection of pastel colours make up most of the background – dusty pinks, sage green and whites create a calming backdrop. As we move further forward, the colours turn darker and richer, drawing our eyes towards the foreground. The composition features visible brushstrokes which create texture and a lovely painterly effect. The picture is very well balanced, with a long tree framing the right side, its organic form juxtaposing against the sharper and more angled forms of the buildings behind it.
This oil on board is housed in a well-suited gilt frame with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
