The Station
SOLD.
A very pleasant mid-century modernist-style oil composition, depicting 2 trains passing by a station. A rich and uplifting colour palette has been used to paint the trains and stations, and they stand out against the muted sage green landscape and light blue sky that imbue the work with a soothing quality.
The artist displays his painterly skills – using a mix of short and expressive brushstrokes to paint the sky in the background, as well as gentle fluid strokes to capture the surroundings.
This oil on canvas is housed in its original mid-century gilt frame. There are some scattered areas of craquelure to the sky as shown, but the paint layer is stable. There are a few tiny areas of paint losses to the lower section as shown, which are not immediately noticeable. There is some wear to the frame, but this is in keeping with its age and vintage style.
