The Pears

A brilliantly executed and characterful mid century still life in oil, painted by the established artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984).

In this excellent composition, four pears are laid out on a surface. Working with a rich colour palette comprising shades of yellows, greens and cream, the artist has skilfully used the impasto technique – applying thick layers of paint to provide a beautiful textural appeal as well as to enhance the three-dimensional quality the pears.

Cederberg was a Swedish artist who made his debut on the art world in Helsingborg in 1922. Later he participated in the Skåne Art Association Exhibition in 1926 and the  Swedish Public Art Society exhibition in Stockholm in 1941. He is represented in several public collections in Sweden.

This oil on board is housed in its original mid century gilt frame with an inner gilt and linen window that suits the painting perfectly. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
