A brilliantly executed and well-detailed modernist style still life composition, executed in oil in 1975.

The artwork depicts a table top setting featuring a group of mushrooms, placed against a soothing green coloured background.

Working with a modernist ethos in mind, the artist has intentionally chosen not to focus on realistic details, and instead explores the use of colours, brushstrokes, form and shapes to create a sense of depth and space.

Swift and lively brushstrokes fill the canvas; and we are able to identify distinct areas of colours, where the artist has skillfully used contrasting flat areas of patches of colour to give rise to the various forms within this composition.

This oil on board painting is in very good vintage condition. It is housed in a gilt frame with an inner linen lining, of which has some areas of marks and scuffs, as well as age toning to its inner section.
