A brilliantly executed and characterful modernist figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1958.

The painting features an elongated figure seated on an orange and cream platform, set against a contrasting purple-grey backdrop. Containing elements of abstraction, the painting captures the essence of the human form through expressive brushstrokes, rich muted colours, and a reduction of realistic details.

The figure, has been rendered in creamy tones with expressive hints of muted blue, purple, and pink, and its elongated and seated form suggests a contemplative state. Through skilfully layering of colours, the artist has exposed the underlying grey that delicately traces the silhouette of the figure, enhancing its presence and providing a subtle sense of structure amidst the abstract composition.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary purple frame that pairs wonderfully with the painting. There is a very small area of craquelure to the figure, as shown in close up photos, but this is commensurate with age and does not detract from its overall attractiveness. The painting is otherwise in excellent vintage condition.
